If you are looking to explore Australia outside of Sydney's city limits, then it's time for you to take a trip to Byron Bay. This destination, north of Sydney, can be reached by an hour and a half flight or by a ten hour car ride from Sydney. While Byron Bay is best known for its beaches and scenic views, there are still things to do in the town other than tanning. So pack your bags, because this scenic beach town offers a great time that you don't want to miss out on.
After unpacking your bags in your choice of a hotel, airbnb or hostel, be sure to enjoy a day at Clarkes Beach. With an optimal location right in town, this beach has close access to restaurants and shopping. So, when you are satisfied with your tan, walk into town for some of the best shopping on Australia's East Coast. Most of the stores sell either surfer/bohemian styles or street chic New York styles. Be sure to stop in at St. Elmo for tapas, and Aquarius for brunch.
You can't visit Byron Bay without taking a ride on the Happy Coach. This 60s style bus is decorated like it belongs at Woodstock. Your first stop on the bus will be at a beautiful waterfall and the next stop is in a town called Nimbin. Once back in the heart of Byron Bay, be sure to kayak among the dolphins (yes, it is as amazing as it sounds). End your trip with a walk up to the lighthouse for sunrise. The view is worth the sweat.
