Whether you're in Rome for an extended stay or for a quick weekend trip, here are the must-see sites and attractions:
Colosseum and the Roman Forum
On your way to the Colosseum, you’ll see numerous historical sites like Altare della Patria and the Roman Forum. Buy a pass for the Roman Forum with entry into the Colosseum as well—both attractions for one ticket
You’ll probably come across the famous Pantheon while strolling through the alleys of Trastevere because it’s centrally located and in the middle of many shops/restaurants. Entrance is free.
The Trevi Fountain is stunning, but try to go here during off-season as the fountain gets packed with people later in spring/summer.
St. Peter’s Basilica and The Vatican Museums
Visit the Vatican Museums and see the famous Sistine Chapel inside. Also, you must go inside St. Peter’s Basilica and then climb to the top (cupola). The view of Rome is incredible.
The area around the Spanish Steps is the Rodeo Drive/Beverly Hills of Rome. The stores include Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Hermès, Gucci, Ferragamo, Prada, Celine, etc. Even if you’re not shopping, the area is so fun and lively, with street performers, musicians, and dancers.
