5 Things You Must Do When Visiting Copenhagen for a Weekend

Copenhagen might be freezing and grey most of the time, but it’s also known to be the happiest city in the world. Copenhagen is really simple to navigate and traveling around is even easier because the locals speak English. The people are so nice, the food is amazing, and there is so much to do. Whether you’re looking for a weekend filled with food, sight-seeing, or shopping, Copenhagen has it all! Here are just a few of our favorite things to do and places to see while you’re visiting.

1. If You Want to Feel Cultured – Take the train to Humblbæk Street and go to the Louisiana Museum of Art.

This museum is about 45 minutes outside of the main city of Copenhagen, but if you have extra time you should definitely go here! There is a cool Kusama exhibit similar to the one at the New Museum which is called the Gleaming Lights of the Soul. This is a perfect place for photos!

2. If you’re a major foodie, head over to Paper Island, also known as Copenhagen Street Food.

This market is unlike any other. First, you have to walk over a bridge from Nyhaven to find this huge warehouse filled with food. If it’s freezing outside, this will be the perfect pit stop to warm up and eat amazing foods from any cuisine. The inside looks similar to a ski lodge, which makes it unique from the other markets you will stumble upon across in Europe. We highly recommend the falafel from Fala Fala – hands down the best we’ve ever had.

3. If You Want to be Touristy – Head over to the Canal in Nyhaven.

The colorful buildings along the river are picture perfect. The area surrounding the canal is also adorable and is filled with small cafes and shops. If you want to, hop on a boat tour here.

4. IF YOU'RE STILL HUNGRY FOR A SNACK, CHECK OUT THE OLDEST BAKERY IN COPENHAGEN: LA GLACE.

This bakery has two different sections: one for people to sit and be served a selection of cakes, pastries, and cookies, and another section where you can buy pastries to-go. We highly recommend the macarons, homemade cookies and the vanilla crème cake.

5. IF YOU'RE A COFFEE JUNKEE, STOP BY ONE OF THE UNION KITCHEN'S LOCATIONS.

This popular restaurant just opened up another store front in Nyhaven. It now has two locations in Nyhaven, both of which are super cute and are perfect for a cup of coffee and an avocado toast. Be sure to order a cappuccino because they will surprise you with a design written on top!
