Making the decision to study abroad is huge. It’s probably the longest amount of time you will have spent away from home up until this point, and that can be scary. That being said, it’s important that you pick a place that you can call a second home, a place where you can feel comfortable and safe, and a place that has all the perks of an unbelievable abroad experience.
Sure, Europe’s awesome. You can become immersed in an entirely different culture and easily travel to new places every weekend. Sydney is a little bit different, but in the best way possible.
When making the checklist for your desired abroad destination, you probably think of a few things: the nightlife, the travel, the people, the culture, the food, and maybe, the weather. Sydney has it all. The nightlife is unbelievable, the beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world, the brunch is famous, and the people are relaxed, fun loving, and the accents don’t hurt. Travel wise, you may not go to as many places as you would if you studied in Europe, but you will go to some places on this side of the world that you will never get the chance to go to again, and they are worth it. Additionally, having no language barrier is a huge plus. It’s easy to communicate with people which helps you feel comfortable and allows you to become friends with the locals.
Sydney is a place where you settle; it will become your second home. Since you won’t be traveling every weekend, you will begin to learn and understand the city, and think of it as your own. When you do travel, you may find that you do so in such a way that allows you to maximize your time in Sydney. You will find yourself saying after a trip to Fiji, Bali, or New Zealand, “I can’t wait to go home.” Sydney is a special place.
